Even in the darkest of times, it's never too late to begin your rise:

-

The insane rise of Akash Deep- the man who came from mud, grief & hopelessness… to wear the India jersey.15th December 1996, a baby boy was born to a schoolteacher Ramji Singh and his wife in a small village near Sasaram, Bihar.

They named him Akash.

There was no cricket academy, no infrastructure,  just gully cricket with a tennis ball.

But little Akash only bowled,  never cared about batting. At 10, his bowling caught attention.

Friends told his father, “Put him in an academy. He could play for India.”

But in Bihar, academies were a joke.

No facilities.

At just 14, he migrated from Dehri, Bihar to West Bengal in search of better cricketing opportunities. But soon, he had to return home, his father had suffered paralysis, and the family needed him more than ever.2015, Life flipped.

His father passed away.

His elder brother stepped up. “You play, I’ll manage the family.”

But just 6 months later, even his brother died.

Akash became the only earning member of his family, his mother and two sisters depended on him.

So he quit cricket.Between 2015 and 2018, Akash Deep did manual labor for ₹100–150 per day.

He worked in sand-loading work, carrying sand from riverbeds to trucks.

No helmet. No gloves. No dreams. Just survival.

He had disappeared from cricket.

Everyone thought he was done.Akash’s cousin brother once again pushed him to go back to Bengal and pursue cricket. This time, he listened. To survive, he started playing tennis ball tournaments for prize money. Soon, he joined the United Club in Bengal to train seriously.

During his early days with Bengal, he lived in a dormitory so rundown that coach Arun Lal called it “unbearable” and “a bloody hellhole.” Yet Akash never complained once.

Despite the harsh conditions, he was known for his mental toughness. Arun Lal said Akash was “stronger than all the others” and admired his work ethic.Akash was raw, but his ability to reverse swing impressed everyone.

He was selected for Sourav Ganguly’s ‘Vision 2020’, a program to groom West Bengal’s cricket talent.

Free coaching, gear, nutrition, mentors, Akash finally had a support system.

He made it to Bengal U23 and then to the senior Ranji team. He took 42 wickets for Bengal in one Ranji season. In 2021, he was picked as a net bowler.

He bowled to Maxwell and Kohli, and impressed the support staff.

In 2022, an IPL team officially signed him for 20 Lakhs.

In a game vs KKR, he took 3 big wickets, Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, and Umesh Yadav.

From sandbags to IPL, the miracle had begun.Feb 2024, Bumrah rested during India vs England Test series. Akash Deep was called up. He debuted in Ranchi. His mother sat in the stands and cried.

This was the boy who once earned 100/day.

Now, he was dismissing Duckett, Pope, and Crawley on debut.

Just before his England tour 2025, his sister was diagnosed with cancer. He kept it private, even from teammates, until after his historic 10-wicket haul

July 2025,  Bumrah rested again in England.

Akash Deep got the nod.

India made 587. Then came the question  “Who will take England’s 20 wickets without Bumrah?”

Answer: Akash Deep.

He took 4 wickets in the first innings, and then 6 in the second, including Root, Brook, Duckett & Pope, all bowled!

First Indian pacer in 21 years to take 10 wickets in a match in England.

A man who once did hard labor just to feed his family… now stood among the stars.

He didn’t just break into Team India.

He shattered every limitation, financial, emotional, systemic.

This is not just a cricket story.

It’s a story of belief, of how even at your lowest, your rise can begin.

Someone out there needs to read this.

To know it’s never too late.

To remember that circumstances are temporary but willpower is everything.

The moral of Akash Deep's story is that with an unyielding spirit and unwavering belief, you can shatter the limitations of your circumstances.

His journey from manual labor and profound loss to the pinnacle of international cricket proves that a determined will is the most powerful tool for overcoming adversity. His story is a beacon of hope, reminding us that even in the darkest of times, it's never too late to begin your rise.

 Respect, Akash Deep.

A father’s dedication and sacrifice towards children’s education:

- "I never told my children what my job was. I never wanted them to feel ashamed because of me. When my youngest daughter asked me what I did, I used to tell her hesitantly that I was a labourer. Before I went back home every day, I used to take a bath in the public toilets so they did not get any hint of the work I was doing. I wanted to send my daughters to school, to educate them. I wanted them to stand in front of people with dignity. I never wanted anyone to look down upon them like the way everyone did to me.  People always humiliated me. I invested every penny of my earnings for my daughters’ education. I never bought a new shirt, instead I used the money for buying books for them. Respect is all I wanted them to earn for me.  I was a cleaner. The day before the last date of my daughter’s college admission, I could not manage to get her admission fees. I could not work that day. I was sitting beside the rubbish, trying hard to hide my tears. All my co-workers were looki...

The invention of the school/college system:

-  Have you ever thought about why we have to send our children to school? Do we have the choice not to school our child? The school is considered so holy that there is no life without school. The school/college is more important than bread, butter, and water. Schools and colleges that we see today are the products of history. In the beginning, for hundreds of thousands of years, children educated themselves through self-directed play and exploration. There were no master plan buildings and closed cages (classrooms) as we see today or been in one of the cages ourselves. In relation to the biological history of us as humans, schools are very recent institutions or the factories of discipline (one of the synonyms of discipline is punishment). The meaning of discipline in English is ‘the practice of training people to obey rules and behave well’. The education system as we know it today is only about 200 years old. Before that, formal education was mostly reserved for the rich. B...

We should always calculate the consequences of our actions:

- *The consequences of our actions*       A young man saw his primary school teacher on a wedding. He went to greet him with all the respect and admiration. He said to him: "Do you remember me, Teacher?" The teacher said: "No, introduce yourself." The student said: "I was your student in the 3rd Grade, I am the one who stole the watch of a child in the classroom. I will remind you but I am sure you remember the story." One of the boys in my class had a beautiful watch, so I decided to steal it.                He came to you crying that someone had stolen his watch.  You asked us to stand so as to search our pockets.       I realized that my action would be exposed in front of the Students and Teachers. I will be called a thief, a liar and my character will be shattered forever. You asked us to stand and face the wall and close our eyes completely. You went searching from pocket to pocket, and when you r...

Protecting self respect and understanding sexual exploitation in day to day life:

-  Self-respect is an important part of our identity because it reflects how we view ourselves, which in turn impacts every area of our life, including our relationships, work, and social life. It's the time for education to enhance the children's world view and understand that there is so much beyond money, fame and power.

 - Today's education makes us look at the world through a key hole and limits us to it. We make all our major life decisions based on this limited perspective. We need to widen that keyhole for us and our children by providing them with the education that made the first generation of this caring world. With such a perspective, we can see more, know more and the possibility of growth is immense.. The urge for Money, fame, power comes out of that key hole. That's why our children like the career which can give money, fame, power. Like an example, you ask any child what they would like to become, they will say, Doctor, Engineer, Lawyer, IAS, CA. And you will rarely see or do not see children mention, Artist, Nurse, Teacher, Social change Activist, climate change Activist etc. It's the time for education to enhance the children's world view and understand that there is so much beyond money, fame and power. That's true meaning of education.

When people come to the cities and settle, we see only one side of the coin:

 - Today worldwide the urban centres are becoming too large, complex and complicated. People are finding it difficult to come up with solutions with regards to city management. Currently, it was in the news that most of the free public spaces in Bangalore city will be made into paid parking spaces. These efforts are one of the measures to encourage public transport. In this proposal there is an effort to issue the parking passes, also monthly passes to the owners of the cars which they can buy and use to park cars beside designated public roads. This is just a proposal which was published in the newspaper recently. This is one example of how things are becoming complex in the cities.  In another example, before few years in Delhi, it was in the news where the 'even and odd car number' system was introduced. Even after introducing the system, it was also not as effective as expected. Delhi also considered being one of the most polluted cities in the world. New Delhi was the wor...
