You are well aware of TCS, TATA
Safari, TATA salt, TATA Steel, etc etc. Yes this is the house of business whose
founder has topped the list.
He has emerged as the top philanthropist in Edelgive Hurun India’s list of philanthropists of the
century, advancing the likes of Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffet, Henry
Hughes and George Soros.
Who is Jamsetji Tata?
He is the founder of the
$200-billion Tata conglomerate, he is the one who founded what would later become the Tata
Group of companies. He is regarded as the legendary
"Father of Indian Industry”.
He was so influential in the world
of industry that Jawaharlal
Nehru referred to Tata as a One-Man Planning Commission.
Rupert Hoogewerf, chairman and
chief researcher of Hurun Report said in a press statement, “Whilst American
and European philanthropists may have dominated the thinking of philanthropy
over the last century, Jamsetji Tata, founder of India’s Tata Group, is the
world’s biggest philanthropist”.

Charity is also referred to as philanthropy.
Philanthropy means a practice of helping the poor and
those in need, especially by giving money. But there is a difference between charity and philanthropy.
While charity is focused on providing immediate relief to people and
is often driven by emotions, philanthropy is focused on helping people and solving
their problems over the long term. The philanthropy projects are run by
big and well-managed organisations, in India we have few families who do such philanthropic activities,
