In a hostel canteen, they served upma for breakfast everyday. Most of the students got sick of that upma and raised the issue to the warden and asked to change the dish. However there were 20 out of 100 students who never ever tasted anything else than upma and they were scared of a change. Warden gave a list of dishes for breakfast and upma was one of the choices. And asked students to vote. Those 20 people religiously chose upma and didn't even bother to look other options. Now remaining 80 people didn't coordinate well, 18 people chose dosa, 16 people chose roti, 14 people chose idly, 12 people chose bread & butter, 10 people chose pongal and 10 people chose noodles. Guess what? upma is the breakfast now in the canteen again.
Think!!! Act!!! and Vote!!!
Voting and democracy is very important in a nation because it provides people an opportunity to voice their opinion and vote for what they believe in, it holds elected officials accountable for their behavior while in office, and it prevents a minority from dictating the policies of a majority (www.maine.org).
Democracy is a system of rule by laws, not by individuals. In a democracy, the rule of law protects the rights of citizens, maintains order, and limits the power of government (web.stanford.edu).
Democracy is also an important factor of controlling government power and prevents the people who hold power abusing it and using it for their own gain rather than for the people's. This is done in a democratic state by having elections and holding those in power accountable for what they have done (Quora).
